Peter and Kate first contacted me when their wedding was provisionally going to be held at the London Golf Club, I had worked there before and they found me because of this. However I received an email from Kate shortly after the booking was confirmed saying that the venue was now Boreham House located near Chelmsford in Essex. An exclusive luxury wedding venue comprising of a Grade I listed mansion, stately avenue of trees and a formal lake.

So with this now ammended on my records, I contacted Boreham House to see if it was possible to visit so that I could get a better idea of the layout and lighting etc. On the day of my visit the weather was quite miserable with a grey and cloudless sky and was quite damp from rain the day before. I was greeted by one of the Boreham House team and shown around the mansion and grounds.

Joe and Celia tied the knot on Saturday at St Julians Club in Sevenoaks, Kent. What a place! The views over the Kent countryside were amazing and the venue itself was beautiful.

On the morning of the wedding, I as always checked the weather to see what the day had in store for us. It was not looking good! Rain from 1pm to 7pm, the wedding was taking place at 1pm!

So after discussing our options and the prospect of a wet afternoon with the bride, Celia. We came to the conclusion that if it rained we would just make the best of what we had, lets face it what else could we do?

Here is a small selection from Kevin and Camellias engagement shoot at Scotney Castle in Lamberhurst, Kent. They are having a 1940's inspired wedding and the images below have been edited and shot with a 'vintage' feel as this is the desired look for the wedding photos.

Apologies for being a bit rubbish on updating the blog lately but what with the wedding season starting very early this year and a weeks holiday I seem to be running out of hours in the day!

So whats been happening at Christopher Martin photography? Well I have recently come back from a week away in Cornwall, which didn't quite go as planned to say the least, more to follow on this below.

I have been busy with engagement shoots and already shot three weddings this year so the wedding season has started in ernest very early on.

Happy to say that the weather has been good for all of the weddings and shoots so far and...

Mark and Becca are holding their wedding reception next month at the Whitbread Hop Farm, this for those of you that have not visited, it is a beautiful wedding venue nestled in the heart of the Kent countryside. It also happens to be virtually on my doorstep so nice and local :).

I met Mark and Becca in Whitbreads for the pre wedding or engagement photo shoot at the weekend. These really help I find to let everyone relax and look more natural in front of the camera come their big day, especially true for those a little camera shy.

So what does £21K get you nowadays?

I have just read an article in the Guardian stating that if you are getting married in the UK then £21K is now the average cost of a wedding. Now this is a HUGE amount of money and I struggle to see that this is now the UK average but for the purpose of this blog, lets assume its correct.

What else could you get for your money and what would you have left 5 years after making the purchase? This is probably already seeming like a very weird comparison but please stay with me, it will all become clear, I promise.

I met Josh by chance, to be more precise at another wedding consultation!

I was meeting with Rebecca and James at the grasshopper in Westerham, more about this great couple can be see HERE

Josh and his future in-laws had been visiting a wedding venue just down the road from the grasshopper ( Squerryes Court) and overheard me talking with Becca and James about their wedding photography. Well to cut a long story, Josh asked for a business card and I happily handed one over. They were still there when Becca and...

I met with James and Rebecca last month to discuss their wedding at Selsdon Park Hotel and Golf Club. We discussed ideas for the big day being held in November and I thought the consultation went very well.

They had other photographers to meet and so would be in contact if I was chosen to photograph their wedding. Rebecca contacted me this week to confirm that I had been chosen and that they would like to confirm the booking.

This is great news for two reasons, they are a great couple who I look forward to working with allot and Selsdon Park Hotel is a stunning venue which will offer an amazing backdrop for the photos.

Just wanted to say a quick thank you for entrusting your special day to me and cant wait to see you both soon for the pre wedding shoot!...

I am often asked if I enjoy what I do and if I take photos in my spare time, the short answer is absolutely to both!

In order to progress and improve I believe that you have to shoot allot outside of work in your own time to develop more skills and create fresh and new ideas. I was lucky enough to work with a fantastic model recently and the images below are my favourites from the day.

I am not for one second saying that this style of photography would be appropriate for a wedding but I hope it demonstrates a little more the dynamics of my photography. Having said that if you did want this look for your wedding photos,  that would certainly be a wedding to remember!

I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them.

Here are a few of my favourites from Craig and Loretta's wedding at the Oakley Court Hotel in Windsor. We were blessed with blue skies and dry weather but it was icy cold!

Craig and Loretta are a fantastic couple with a great bunch of friends and family, it really was a fantastic day.

What a month!! The Nikon D4 and D800 both on a pre order! I have ore ordered a D4 as I did not expect the D800 to be a low light device (well on a par with the D3/D4) and this seems to be the case.

The sensor now boasts a huge 36.3 million pixels with a native ISO range of 100-6400. So where...

One of the biggest problems for wedding photographers has always been carrying the amount of equipment that’s required for a wedding without feeling like you have been run over by a truck at the end of the day.

Thankfully Andy Cotton, a landscape photographer from Canada has designed a carrying system that will allow us to carry 2 cameras with lenses and lots of accessories with relative ease and comfort.

The chest positioning will enable you to carry a pro DSLR with any lens of your choice in complete comfort and more importantly securely. Ideal for Weddings, Events, biking or hiking!

The Nikon D4 camera has finally been announced and will be shipping on the 16th February 2012 but will wedding photographers be ordering one and what does it mean for my clients ?

The D4 has been rumored for some time and its low light shooting capability is certainly been causing some hype for a while. So the day come when Nikon finally showcased it, the million dollar question was will it live up to the hype?

The short answer from previews shown is that it will definitely be a huge leap from its older brother the D3 and there are something in the region of 47 improvements over the D3s. The D3s is the latest carnation of...

Bridesmaids are important in a wedding because they are there to assist the bride on her special day. These ladies are usuallythe closest friends that the bride chose to walk with her and lend her support during this significant event in her life. So if you're the bride, it's good if you pay special attention to your bridesmaids. There are lots of ways you can show your appreciation for their role in your wedding. Apart from making them look beautiful and elegant in your wedding by having them styled in pretty dresses and accessorised in stylish jewellery, you can also give them bridesmaids gifts to show your thankfulness and appreciation.

As a Wedding Photographer I am often asked to cover special events and this one held at the Landmark Hotel in London was no different, very special indeed..........

AngloAmerican appointed me as the official photographer for their Christmas Party. The Landmark Hotel proved to be a stunning venue as you can hopefully see from the images. It really is a photographers dream providing endless photo opportunities!

The evening started in the Gazebo Bar where guests were served Champagne and treated to the sounds of a five piece choir and pianist reciting beautiful renditions of popular christmas carols.

There are an infinite number of possibilities for your wedding reception site. Where you get married should represent your style; it should fit into the image you had envisioned yourself since the first day you started planning your wedding.

As you look for your wedding reception venue, be sure it is fitting theme for your wedding. Does it fit the theme of your wedding? No one is expecting you to create a Broadway show production, but be sure the location accommodates the overall theme and feel of your wedding. The location of you wedding reception also needs to reflect the style and personality of the bride and groom. In addition, it needs to be an enjoyable, memorable experience for the wedding guests.

Have you ever wondered why Jennifer Lopez had made such a great impact on her movie, "The Wedding Planner?" This is because most people, after watching the film, had finally realized the importance of hiring a wedding planner.

Long before, most couples are having second thoughts on the idea of hiring a wedding planner. They have doubts if hiring the services of a wedding planner is really worth their money, especially those who are in a tight budget.

Basically, hiring the services of a wedding planner is actually a matter of choice and personal preference. If you think that you and your fiancé can handle most of the wedding planning without any...

When it comes to choosing wedding flowers, many brides may know the wedding flower they want in their own bouquet, but are a little mystified about the rest of the wedding flowers needed to fill out the ceremony and reception.

While you can leave all your wedding flower selections in the hands of a capable professional florist and get great results, you may want to take a more hands on approach. We hope this wedding flower guide will help making planning your most special day just a little easier.

Your first decision should be whether you plan to use a professional florist to create a wedding flower arrangement and bouquets, or if you'd rather visit a...

Before we start, yes I know I am a wedding photographer and no I am most certainly not a jeweller but this is very important for all you boys out there planning to pop the question. I have taken the mystery out of the diamond buying process to save you the trouble, hope you find it of use.

When choosing a diamond ring, you have to consider the 4 Cs to ensure that you are buying the right quality and the right style of diamond for you. They are Cut, Carat, Colour, and Clarity.

Cut: A well cut diamond is beautiful because it's very brilliant. Of all the variables affecting the value of a diamond ring, the cut is the most crucial.
A well cut diamond is the work of a master diamond cutter, since...

When school girls spend their maths class daydreaming of weddings (instead of winning the World Cup -- not to say you can't do both :)), what do they dream of first? The perfect wedding dress, of course: a gown in white satin with a bustle and sweeping train, the perfect embellishments, and the perfect shoes. Wedding Photography and the Wedding photographer will often be selected after, once the theme of the wedding has been chosen.

There are few occasions in our modern world where a woman finds herself in a position to wear a no-holds-barred ball gown, much less a crystal tiara, and all too many where she's called on to wear to a neutral suit or uninspiring "biz-caz" combo. No wonder that with so many brides, their...

Wedding Photography – Why choosing the right photographer is important for your special day

It’s said that a wedding will be the best day of your life. Many lovers sit around dreaming of the day their partner will take that faithful leap and propose, to promise to dedicate themselves to one another in sickness, health and for the rest of their lives. Whilst there are many things to consider leading up the big day, you should always take care when choosing your wedding photographer.

Professional Wedding Photography Preserves Priceless Memories

Your wedding is absolutely going to be one of the most special days of your life. As such, it is important to choose high-quality wedding photography for your big day. Christopher Martin Photography has the expertise to ensure you have striking photographs that will depict exactly how amazing your wedding day was.

It is a good idea to discuss with the photographer, prior to the wedding, any special “must-have” shots that you require. Looking through a wedding photographer's portfolio can help you know if you like the style or styles offered and give you ideas of some types of shots you might want to include in your...

Well after a fantastic but very busy year with Wedding Photography, I thought it was time to spend some time with a very special little person, Charlie. So with my assistant with camera in hand and me the other side of it for a change, Charlie and I spent an hour or so in the studio and Charlie well and truly showed daddy who was boss!! It was great fun and when his cousin Freddie arrived it made for a great afternoon.
